Over the last few months I have done wine sales trips to Europe and The United States. Going into the Northern Hemisphere winter had temperatures dropping as low as -5 degrees celsius. Our wines however had a warm welcome and were well received wherever I went.

"It will always be a challenge to make good Riesling in South Africa because of our climate, but I have always thought Riesling could do well at Groote Post. Sauvignon Blanc and Pinot Noir do very well on our farm, and they prefer colder climates, so why shouldn't Riesling have the same potential?" The wine business certainly does have its perks , not the least of which is the great people you meet and the most stunning places you get to visit. This is so often combined with delicious food paired to our Groote Post wines. One such a gem was my visit to De Oudekraal County Estate and Spa, situated 40km south of Bloemfontein. Gerhard and Marie were our hosts and the wine gourmet treat that they rolled out was world class. Look out for their Wildskosfees on the 2nd Saturday of June every year.
